Societies are the sweethearts of the finch world. They are hardy, easy to care for, gentle natured, and quiet. Societies get along with most all species and love raising babies. In fact most Societies, both male and female, will incubate any species of egg you care to plop into their nest, hatch it, and feed it like it was their own. They are not particular about the type of nest used but an enclosed nest is preferred. Society males have a funny little song and squatty dance, and both sexes make a ‘cricket’ chirp. Not the most musically inclined but their sweet nature more than makes up for the lack of song quality. Both beginners and experienced finch fanciers love keeping these little guys. My favorites are the Chocolate Selfs with their rich brown-black coloring and tummy scaling.
