Cock

Fawn Pied Cock

Pearl Self Hen

Cock and Hen: Sexing Societies is very difficult as the sexes look alike. The best way to sex Societies is by the males song and laying of eggs in the hen. Both sexes chirp like a cricket but only the male does the squatty dance and bubbly song. Societies come in a variety of colors and markings, fawn, gray (Pearl), brown (Chocolate), black and white, white pied, and more. It has been said that no two pied Societies are marked exactly alike. Self Societies are of a solid coloring, no spots, markings, or ticks, whereas Pied Societies are spotted in two colors. Societies can be bred for crests as well as color. They are curious and very social (thus their name) and can cause nest desertion in other more timid nesters. They are excellent parents and prove to be dependable foster parents as well.
